Her Light Bulb Moment!

Woman Changes from Happy Stay-At-Home Mom to Happy Stay-At-Home Mom/Inventor/Entrepreneur

    By Home Business Magazine

Leslie Haywood was a stay-at-home wife and mother to two young daughters when a spicy light bulb moment changed the trajectory of her life forever. She never felt she was the entrepreneurial type.

Leslie Haywood is the founder and president of a grilling gadget empire.

As a matter of fact, her whole life, she pictured herself working for a few years out of college, and she knew she would leave whatever career she had chosen to be a stay-at-home mom as her mother before her. She followed her "plan" to the letter UNTIL…. After nine years of working for a shipping company, leaving that company to start a family, and three years into her dream of "stay-at-home"-hood, she hosted a dinner party that changed her from a happy stay-at-home mom to a happy stay-at-home mom/inventor/entrepreneur in the male-dominated "sport" of grilling! Leslie is the founder and president of a grilling gadget empire, when her whole life all she ever thought of being the President of was MAYBE her daughter’s school’s PTA.

In 2006, after being served a spicy piece of chicken off the grill by her husband, Leslie invented "Grill Charms™." Grill Charms™ are dime-sized solid stainless steel charms that are placed in food BEFORE grilling. The serrated stem holds the charm in securely while flipping, moving, and grilling food like the Grill Master normally does. Grill Charms™ are applied to food prior to cooking to distinguish spices, flavors, and steak temperatures, or to avoid health or allergy issues.

Since her light bulb moment, Leslie has sold her product both online and in specialty retailers across the U.S. and Canada. This past summer, her product was sold in TJ Maxx and Marshalls stores nationwide. One of her crowing achievements was going on ABC’s hit reality TV show, Shark Tank, and starting a feeding frenzy with the inventors. All but one shark was clamoring to get a piece of the action.

Leslie feels her primary advantage of working from home is the freedom it gives her to set her own hours, and to work around her children’s very busy schedules. Recently, she signed a licensing deal with a large kitchen product manufacturer (every inventor’s dream). Now she is coming up with more products to expand her brand and grilling gadget company.
