Companies That Built Trust Offline are More Likely to Make Sales Online

When Internet shoppers were asked what made them use their computers to purchase goods, almost 46% of the purchasers answered that the web site they were buying from “seemed to offer a safe shopping environment.” But only slightly less people (30%) answered that they trusted the company they were dealing with before coming to the web site, and didn’t necessarily trust ecommerce, so to speak.

Domainit, a web site hosting company and domain name registrar, conducted the survey. “What small business owners need to realize is that there is a combination of factors that goes into making online sales,” says Eric Engel, spokesperson for Domainit. “It’s not enough to just set up a web site. You have to work it online and offline. The modern entrepreneur has to make prospects feel safe. You have to use offline efforts, like phone calls, print ads, and traditional marketing strategies. Combine them with your online efforts, and you’re much more likely to give people that feeling of safety. In the end, you get a lot more customers willing to buy from your site.”
