Debra enjoyed wearing her own personal collection of vintage pieces. While wearing them, on several occasions, women would approach her and want to know if they could purchase them. Debra started thinking, "I could make a business selling what I love!"
Ever since Debra was a little girl, she ran around begging her mom to let her “just borrow” a few pieces of jewelry. She longed for those family heirloom pieces to be hers. Years later, Debra now admires her family heirlooms in her own jewelry box. She has also collected thousands of pieces of jewelry dating from the Victorian era to the 1970s. Searching high and low for these glorious little treasures, she has turned her passion into a successful home business — Vintique Vintage Jewelry.
Finding these vintage treasures requires that Debra travel to different states. She has expanded her home business from being the original “walking billboard” — herself, as her husband, Kris, calls her — to managing her website, acting as an estate sale coordinator, and selling at shows around the metro area. Debra states that approximately fifty percent of her business now comes from international buyers, including in the UK and Indonesia.
Business cards and the Internet are Debra’s best forms of advertising.
She has also sold her unique pieces to music performers and actors, adding sparkle to theatre performances.
According to Debra, running a home-based business gives her the flexibility to spend time with her family, meet new customers, and seek out another fabulous collection to add to her inventory. Both of her daughters have now worked with her at shows, making it even more enjoyable. Debra also gives presentations to groups, teaching them about the history and details of her jewelry. She has also "gone green" with her jewelry, selling pieces of imperfect jewelry to recycle and create new pieces.
“Vintage jewelry is something people collect and enjoy, worldwide,” says Debra. Her motto is "Add A Little Sparkle To Your Day!" (She certainly does!) Visit www.rubylane.com/shop/sparkles or email vintique-jewelry@comcast.net for information. HBM
