Taking Her Future into Her Own Hands

Woman Works from Home Doing Books for Growing Clientele
    By Home Business Magazine

After losing or having her comptroller job changed for the third time in 14 years, Amy Rines was forced to make some difficult choices. She could either find a new job and again be at the whim of downsizing, or she could take her future into her own hands and start a home-based business.

She figured, if the companies she had worked for couldn’t afford a full-time bookkeeper, then other companies, as well would be looking for a part-time or contracted bookkeeper.
So, Rines started her home-based bookkeeping business, Rines Management Group in July 2008. Her business struggled a little at first, but business sky-rocketed after Rines invested in some educational courses from Universal Accounting. The courses are offered in multi-disk DVD set and feature hands-on coaching and support by Universal Accounting.

“I debated long and hard before purchasing the class, because it’s a substantial investment,” Rines said. “If I hadn’t, I would not be successful because I wouldn’t know what to do.”
In the last year, since completing the Universal Accounting course, Rines Management Group’s business has increased by 358%, what Rines considers to be her best business achievement, so far.
Rines has more than 35 clients, not only in her former field of construction, but she also does books for lawyers, doctors, churches, consulting firms, and carpet cleaners. Most of her clients she found by networking. Rines is a member of Rotary and a couple of other business networking groups.
To stay successful, Rines says she keeps a strict calendar. “I only visit clients two or three times a week and try to get several on one day, so I can get stuff done on the other days,” she said.
By working from home, Rines doesn’t have to pay a separate rent on a space, and she can pass her savings along to her customers, and keep her rates lower than her competitors’. She also enjoys the flexibility of being able to take time off to visit her parents, without her business suffering.
The future for Rines Management Group looks bright. Her long-term goal is to have offices in the four neighboring towns, and to be bought out by a large firm. HBM
