    There are different ways you can be an expert. The most obvious and straightforward is to be an expert in the field of your business.

    Have you ever thought about being an expert in your field of business? It’s not as difficult as you might think. There are different ways you can be an expert. The most obvious and straightforward is to be an expert in the field of your business. This type of expertise translates well in the direct marketing of your home business.  For example, if you operate a specialty cleaning business, you work at being an expert in the science of specialty cleaning. You then look at ways to promote your expertise, such as through industry trade newsletters and association websites.

    A more difficult way to rise as an expert is to specialize in a part of small business operations, and work to be an expert in it. Small business operations offer many niches to specialize in including sales, marketing, ecommerce and online, business start-up, home office, financial management, productivity, business operations, and so many other areas. You might also specialize in self-improvement areas that work to better people’s productivity and the human factors that define better business performance. 

    Perhaps the best way to gain recognition as an expert in small business operations is to publish a book.  Small business experts also look for ways to speak to groups and network within their community.  Some may also pursue this expertise as a full-time profession, and look for ways to consult and advise to businesses and trade shows.

    All experts, whether in their business field or in small business operations, have several areas in common in how they should market themselves.  They must have a good online presence or “brand”.  This starts with a good clean website that is kept up-to-date with attractive content and a good biography.  Include videos too.  An expert should also have a professional Facebook page with a growing number of Twitter followers.  Your online brand can be expanded with Linkedin.
